About Us

The West Tacoma Optimist Club was started in 1956 and we have proudly served our community since that time. We strive to meet local needs as an independent club within the Optimist International network of service clubs around the world. Optimist Clubs provide community support with an emphasis on projects that benefit, recognize and involve youth.

Here in the West Tacoma area, we:
  • Provide scholarships to local high schools
  • Support the Emergency Food Network and volunteer each month at a Repack activity
  • Sponsor Tacoma Sea Scouts
  • Support Boy Scout Troop #438
  • Prepare food baskets and gifts for families struggling to make ends meet at Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • Sponsor the Tri-Star Sports program in the University Place School District
  • Coordinate oratorical and essay contests for local students
  • Provide funding for the Toy Rescue Mission
  • Provide funding for the Peace Out Program at Curtis High School
  • Support Optimist Park, 1330 N. James Street, within Metro Parks Tacoma
